Course Description
The CCOD curriculum is designed purposely for those who are new or have basic knowledge in the field of private sector development (PSD) or local economic development (LED):
Professional entrepreneurs, executives/leaders who want to transform their team/organizations to high performing, and those in development advocacy roles.
Also, private sector advocates (to influence policies or for reforms) and the academia (institutions that wish to introduce private sector advocacy into their faculties) are beneficiaries of this programme.
Social workers and Non-profit sector operators (NGOs/Religious groups) are also target beneficiaries to this programme.
Managers of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Management consultants, HR practitioners, and young professionals (Youth) who are planning to improve performance or facilitate change in their organizations or communities are appropriate groups can study this private sector advocacy.
Programme Goals
- To produce professionals and capable graduates who are able to contribute to Ghana’s private sector development agenda through the production of private sector development advocates (nation-wide), to be able to implement practical Private Sector Development and Advocacy interventions.
- To empower graduates who understand deeply the scope of private sector development in Ghana and Africa at large.
- To produce private sector development advocates (both professionals and academicians), to be able to execute local advocacy initiatives to influence policies for the protection and growth of Small, Medium Enterprises and Entrepreneurs (SME & Es) in Ghana;
- To Produce Master of Science graduates (MPSD) who have the requisite skills to analyse private sector development challenges and able to provide advocacy interventions that will resolve issues to enable private sector business growth;
- To empower graduate to be able to carry out private sector action research and apply knowledge in private sector dialogues, to create enabling environment for Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to thrive in Ghana;
- To produce professionals who are able to analyse the difference between private sector development advocacy and social policies, and able to conduct evaluation.
Admission Requirements
Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for admission into the PSDA programme (MPSD):
- A good first degree (1st class and 2nd classes in any field) from any accredited and recognized tertiary institution/University in Ghana or equivalent.
- A postgraduate diploma in organization development (OD) with at least 3 years’ experience in private sector is qualified or a first degree or equivalent from any accredited/recognized tertiary institution/University in Ghana or a Master of Arts holder in any field is an advantage.
- Accredited HND with HR Management and or with an additional relevant post Diploma(s) in entrepreneurship/business related, and at least 3 years in leading organizational change or in leadership position or SME management, will be accepted to study the MPSD.
- Other Consideration: Since there has been different management and administration programmes being run in Africa, the new MPSD programme may consider applicants who show evidence of any related certificate(s)/qualification(s) relevant and will meet the requirement for the study of the private sector development and advocacy.
- Applicants with Master of Arts (MA) from any accredited and recognized tertiary institution/University in Ghana may apply for direct entry.
- Foreign Qualifications: All foreign qualification should be referred to the NGTEC (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana. Note: In all admissions, interviews are required and mandatory test to all applicants.
- Special Cases: Having recognized the foundational work of the BUSAC Fund and the Government of Ghana (GoG) work/programme on Business Sector Advocacy (Advocacy Training) conducted for private sector operators and consultants (professional certificate), CCOD will give priority for such qualified applicants. They will present evidence of having been a beneficiary to the GoG and BUSAC Fund Business Sector Advocacy Training.
